Arthanareeswar temple is ancient and very famous in Nanganallur. Once (in 1970) the Kanchi seer, Shri Chandrashekarar, visited this place and asked the locals about the Sivalingam. They searched but could not find it. Later the lingam was found in a nearby pond where a washerman was using the lingam as a washing stone. The local people informed the Kanchi Seer, who then installed the lingam. This temple is next to the pond where the lingam was found
